A few weeks ago, we headed to Croatia with our sister to a small town called Rovinj on the north west Croatian coastline.

Sitting in the heart of Rovinj old town, on the water’s edge, is Hotel Adriatic. This modern art-deco hotel has all the contemporary features you want, free WiFi, air conditioning and USB charge points but most importantly it has a lot of character.

Room 8 was where we spent the weekend and it was beautiful. Mirrored walls around one side of the room seemed to make the room swell in size. There was enough space to for all three of us to comfortably share, with one sleeping on a comfortable fold out sofa bed. The best feature of the room (in our opinion) was the bathroom. The waterfall shower and large bathtub were perfect to relax and cool down after a long hot day exploring the area.

With only 18 rooms up for grabs this hotel gives a boutique feel, with wonderfully considerate staff that pandered to our every need. As well as having a mini-bar in each room, downstairs was a fully stocked bar with both indoor and outdoor seating. The bar staff were expert mixologists and we can highly recommend you try the mint julep from the cocktail menu. We often found ourselves outside watching the people and boats go by as we sipped our beers and cocktails long after the sun has gone down.

Whilst, there isn’t much in the way of facilities in the hotel, it is part of the Maistra chain which has 8 hotels around Rovinj including: Hotel Katarina and Hotel Lone. As a guest at the hotel you were able to enjoy the facilities at any of the other hotels free of charge. We found ourselves visiting the Island of Katarina and making good use of their pool and miniature golf course (for an extra charge of 10KRN pp) on a hot day. We were also able to hire the hotel’s bikes for the day to explore the coastline, free of charge.

We had a fantastic time at this hotel, however, on a subsequent trip we’d probably stay in one of the sister hotels. Whilst the Adriatic won out on location to the old town, the other hotels had more facilities and offered more opportunities to cool down and relax. Which in the heat, was a much more enjoyable way to experience the town of Rovinj.
